The Q Class News application is a banner application which allows teachers to enter news items for classes assigned to them in the Master Schedule. The Class Banner contains pertinent course information and is displayed anytime you are working in a course driven application. Users will only have access to data for the courses which they are assigned to teach in the Master Schedule for the logged in track.
Class News is located under the Schedule menu in Q.
There are two ways to search for classes using the Class Banner.
- Arrow Keys
- Find Function

The Q Class News application allows teachers to create, edit, and delete class news articles which can be viewed by parents and students enrolled in the teacher’s class. Class news items can be created to inform parents and students of upcoming class events, assignments, exam dates, etc., and may be configured to display only over a certain date range. The lower portion of the application screen allows users to view, edit, or delete existing news items. Click on the date headers to filter school news items by ascending or descending dates.

To add new class news items the following fields should be completed.
- Begin Date: Beginning date of the class news item. The begin date corresponds to the dates which the news item will be displayed in the QProfile, QParent, and QStudent portals. Enter a date using the MM/DD/YYYY format, or by clicking on the calendar icon located to the right of the date field.
- End Date: The end date entered will be the final date the news item is displayed in the QProfile, QParent, and QStudent portals.
- Show From: Date which the News item will be displayed publicly in the QProfile, QParent, and QStudent portals.
- Show To: The last date the class news item will be displayed in the QProfile, QParent, and Qstudent portals.
- Title: The title of the school news item will be displayed in the school calendar. The title should correspond to the school news item content.
- Details: Enter details for the school news item being created. The task bar at the top of the text box allows users to change font styles, sizes, and to include emoticons in school news items. Click Check Spelling once you have entered all school news item details to perform a spell check.
- Also Apply To: All classes the teacher is scheduled to teach in the current track on the effective date will be displayed in the ‘Also Apply To’ box. Teachers can place a checkmark next to the course for which they would like the news item applied.
- Click Submit to save the news item, or Reset to undo any changes made before the previous submit.

9. Once saved, the news item will appear in the ‘Existing School News Items’ list.

Viewing Class News Items
Class news items can be viewed in the QStudent Profile application, QParent, and QStudent portals.
Note: The news item will only be displayed in all applications based on the dates in the ‘Show From’ and ‘Show To’ fields.
a. QStudent Profile: To view existing class news items, search for a student whose class has a news item with an effective ‘Show From’ date. Classes with valid news items will be displayed with a note icon to the left of the class period. Single click the note icon to view details of the news item.

b. QStudent Portal: To view class news items in the QStudent Portal, click the News link. The School News calendar and classroom news items will be displayed based on the dates entered in the ‘Show From’ field.

c. QParentPortal: Class News items will be visible in the QParentPortal application. To view class news items log into QParentPortal and maximize the Schedule tab for the desired student. Classes with current news items will appear with a note icon to the left of the class period. Click the Note icon to view class news item details.

To edit an existing class news item:
- Open the Class News application.
- Select the news item you would like to edit from the list.
- Click the notepad icon in the ‘Existing School Class News Items’ list located to the left of the begin date field to expand the news item.
- Make the desired changes to the existing news item and click Submit to save.
- The edited news item will be displayed in the existing class news items list.

To delete an existing class news item:
- Select the class news item you would like to delete from the existing class news item list.
- Click the X to delete the news item.
- You will receive a pop up window, confirming whether or not you would like to delete the selected row. Click OK to confirm, or Cancel to return to the previous window.
